Washtenaw Community College

Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is located in Ann Arbor, MI, with extension campuses in Brighton and Hartland. WCC offers over 100 credit-granting programs at these campuses, the Washtenaw Technical Middle College, as well as offering courses at local area high schools. Washtenaw also has training agreements with local and national corporations and transfer agreements with the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Ferris State University, and UM-Dearborn. 

CARL WECKERLE, VICE PRESIDENT OF ECONOMIC, WORKFORCE & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 

Carl Weckerle serves as Vice President of Economic, Workforce, and Community Development at Washtenaw Community College, where he leads the division responsible for the Entrepreneurship Center, contract and customized training, open enrollment, and emerging workforce initiatives.

Carl brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education and workforce development. Prior to this role, he served as Dean of Academic Services at WCC, leading instructional technology, online learning strategy, and faculty development. His earlier career spans workforce development at Macomb Community College, including industry-aligned training partnerships, and statewide leadership through the Michigan Community College Association across all 28 of Michigan's community colleges. He also co-led Michigan's EV training academy efforts, connecting employers with the talent pipeline needed for the state's mobility transition.

Carl holds an MEd in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University and a Talent Pipeline Management certification. He is committed to data-informed decision-making, strong employer partnerships, and aligning education with regional economic needs.

Outside of work, Carl serves on the Warren Consolidated Schools Board of Education and the Warren Cultural Commission.
