Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit that administers various human services programs in out-Wayne County and Monroe County. Since 1996, the SEMCA has been a leader in talent development programs. SEMCA partners with various community organizations and contractors to serve residents in Wayne and Monroe counties, excluding the city of Detroit. SEMCA provides administrative services to Wayne County Head Start and the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN). SEMCA is committed to its vision for a competitive economy that is sustained by private and public partnerships that develop a productive workforce. SEMCA is governed by two volunteer boards that fulfill specific functions of the organization: the Workforce Development Board and the Southeast Governmental Alliance (SEGA). Gregory Pitoniak serves as SEMCA’s representative on WIN’s board.

GREG PITONIAK, CEO 

Man smilingGreg Pitoniak is a lifetime Michigan resident and has been deeply committed to public service, particularly in Southeast Michigan. He joined SEMCA as the Chief Executive Officer on June 18, 2007, serving previously as Deputy State Treasurer for the State of Michigan. Prior to accepting the appointment in the State Treasurer’s office, Pitoniak served as the full-time elected Mayor of Taylor; State Representative in the Michigan House of Representatives; and Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County. He has held leadership positions with numerous Boards, public/private and intergovernmental partnerships, and other collaborative efforts including the Metropolitan Affairs Corporation, SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments), and the Downriver Community Conference. Currently, Pitoniak serves on the Board of the Directors for the Michigan Works! Association. He also serves as representative of the Michigan Works! system on the Board of the Michigan Alliance for Greater Mobility Advancement.

Pitoniak has a reputation as a leader, a collaborator and a consensus builder. His knowledge of government finance and regulations, and his management style of delegation, support and open communication have brought value to SEMCA while maintaining its reputation for administrative excellence.

Pitoniak earned a B.A. in Urban Studies/Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina where he attended as a National Public Service Fellow. He completed Harvard University’s Senior Executive Program in State/Local Government as a Taubman Fellow and was a Certified Industrial Developer as accredited by the American Economic Development Council.
