The Regional Industry Information Technology Skill Needs Assessment, conducted by Macomb Community College, offers a comprehensive look at the IT industry landscape in Southeast Michigan. - IT Employment Growth: The IT sector has seen steady growth over the past decade, with most jobs requiring a Bachelor's degree. However, there are growing opportunities for candidates with Associate’s degrees, particularly for roles such as Computer User Support Specialist.
- In-Demand Skills: High-demand technical skills include Automation, Agile Methodology, and AI-related capabilities. Beyond technical skills, employers also highly value communication, problem-solving, and project management.
- Educational Recommendations: The report emphasizes the need for hands-on learning experiences and increased collaboration between industry and education providers. Short-term training programs, focused on in-demand skills, are recommended to bridge gaps in the workforce.
